2017 Ford F-150 vs. RAM 1500: Design Comparison

Available in multiple cab and bed configurations including long and short bed regular cab, extended cab and crew cab versions, the new 2017 Ford F-150 and the RAM 1500 are both ready for the job site or the great outdoors. The F-150 has the edge over the RAM where it counts, beating it in interior comfort categories such as front head room and front leg room in the regular cab class and rear head room and rear leg room when you choose crew cab.

Both the 2017 Ford F-150 and the RAM 1500 are powered at the base regular cab trim level by comparably sized V6 engines capable of similar horsepower, torque and fuel economy. Both trucks offer the option of Flex-fuel and both feature more powerful turbo engine and V8 options. Rear wheel drive is the default drivetrain at the base regular cab trim level with 4-wheel drive available as an option on other models.

The 2017 Ford F-150 and the RAM 1500 feature standard safety equipment such as multiple airbags, antilock brakes, traction control, trailer sway control and more. Rearview cameras are optional on both pickups as is emergency telematics technology. That's where the similarities end, though, as Ford offers the option of driver assistance technology on upper trim levels, a feature that's not available in any iteration of the RAM 1500. In addition, the RAM 1500 only earned 4-out-of-5 stars in government crash testing vs. the F-150's 5 stars.
